...Tracing the car...a nightmare or a skillful exercise???...

...Tracing the car...a nightmare or a skillful exercise???...

Hi everyone, in this entry, I will talk about my exercise in DIM2 class: Tracing path for a car.

I think everybody in class knew about this already and someone did better than me. This exercise is really a nightmare for me. Li Ping, you have just only taught us a little bit about Illustrator: opening, closing the program, pen tool and, color adding and...that's it. But your exercise is so difficult, tracing a real car, oh my God, you must be kidding me...

However ^^, this exercise improve my skill a lot. Now I can control myself in each path, it is a good exercise...

Okie, that's enough for Li Ping. Now, I will show you my product:

Well, totally, It looks like the original one below, I feel pleasure with it. But there are some mistakes in details, typically the car light, holder and the wheel. I tried to make the color as the origin but there are some place I have to compose by myself (_ _!).
I used total 20 layers to finished and it take me about 5 hours. What a hard working! I heard that some student used more than 200 layers to do this tracing... I don't think that's a good idea. It may be make you confuse. So I divide each parts of the car to layers: door, wheel, light...
Firstly, I intent to keep the borders of the car, but I looks like a toy so I omitted border, but it looks blur and the last decision is 0.25pt for main borders and omit border inside.
Those are a little bit experiments, hope you comment for my work

...color meaning in use_Part 2...

Colo[u]r meaning in use_Part 2

Combinations

Each colors has different meanings and emotion. The meaning and emotion can be change or become another one when colors are combined. The combination, once again, base on this thing:

...The color was impressed to the human mind begins with color effect in nature...

Do you remember this thing? Now, close your eyes and find out the color combinations in nature, and how to apply it in design. I will show you some simple examples:

Firstly, black and yellow is a good combination. Why we have this excellent couple. I ask you, what has black and yellow on the body...thinking...what...in nature...small...poisonous...insect...flower...honey...

What is it?

Do you have the answer?

The answer is:

After clicking the link, you see a bee, an insect, right? How is a bee and its colors? They are black and yellow, it is a dangerous sign in nature: "Don't eat me, I am poisonous", color in nature is a good tool to protect small insect from birds. In design, we can apply it to make an impress logo.

...color meaning in use_Part 1...

colo[u]r meaning in use_Part 1

Meaning of some popular color

You can see normally, everything in your eyes is colorful, a green leaf is different with a blue sky and a black cat is different with a with dove. Human eye can realize everything base on not only shape but also color. Everybody knew it already...no more to say...

But, have you guys ever think about your feeling when you see some colors. Try to touch your hand on the heart when you look the white and the red after. Try to think about a sad thing when you see a green shirt or drink a hot water when looking a blue floor.

How do you feel? Your heart beat will faster when you look a red, you feel happier when a green is nearing you and you will feel cooler if you are standing on a blue patter floor

Because...

...The color was impressed to the human mind begins with color effect in nature...

Remember that, this is one of a key in color using

In this brief entry, meaning of some popular color will be introduced. I think it is really informative for color design, especially in logo creating. Now, listen to what each color say about them

Red: I am hot, I am color of the sun and blood. I am a most warm color. I am so sexy in fashion. You will feel dangerous when you see me on signs.

Yellow: I am hot too but softer than red, I have a color of gold so that you feel "rich" with me. In dinner, I am usually used. You feel believable when
you see me on finance logos

Blue: I am a cold man but serene. I am the son of sky and ocean which stand for the everlasting. Bank logo use me, water products use me too, I am everywhere need the stableness.

Green: Hi, I am younger brother of Blue, I am funny and "refresh". Because of the color of huge forests, I bring "relax" to everyone. Fresh products need me!!!

Black: I am sexy and mysterious. I am kool and manly. Dark sky is me, luxury products need me and text chooses me to work.

White: I am Black's wife, I am soft and innocent.
I like to be a background because I am mother of every colors so that I am easily to combine with them.

to be continued...

Entry 2: an idea for Magazine design

an IDEA for magazine design

So nice to see you again, my friends. In this entry, I will show you my little work about Photoshop image editing. My work is just a few thing of technical but the important thing is the idea and art analysis.

I found an image of a model on website so I think this is the cover of a magazine or something like that (this thing is not important). I have a strong feeling about this photo and want to analyse the art in this photo. The picture below is the cover of a magazine:

You can see that the model in this photo is really "kool" and you can easily image that the original photo with the model only is enough nice. But I want everyone focus on the layout of the picture.

Firstly is the arrangement of text in the photo. It begins from the text "...Success Stories" to the website address "MAGMYPIC.COM". The putting of text looks like a big letter "C". This kind of the arrangement bring a good effect for the cover. Text is put in order and follow the curve of the model. The text did not hide the model, it just fill in the blank of the photo.

The pressed point in the picture is the black space in the left right conner. The cover will be bored without this shape. It emphasizes the picture and makes it look more manly and mystery. In addition, the black fog space around the photo except the right side makes this cover deeper and thicker look like it has a light from the right comes to the left.

Text style in the photo is total right. It is easy to make, it is simple but high in effect. The warm color was used and the most significant point is the number "20" with a white outside border. The border is clearer when it is in the black space. Once again, details is deeper. Every work is simple but the art effect is really high.

After analysing this photo, I tried to make my own picture with the model is...me. I took a photo with happy style (I can not try to be "kool" as the model) and edited follow the style of the magazine cover and it looks like this:

Please don't laugh, I just tried to...practice a little bit. Base on the style of the magazine cover, I edit my photo to become interesting. Almost text style and color was kept and the black space was "moved" to the right conner. Those thing can be easely done by using Text Tool and Rectangle Tool with adjustment of effects in Blending Options . The original photo's background color was removed (or changed to grayscale). To do this thing, History Brush Tool was used. Firstly, the whole picture was changed to grayscale by doing Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation > drag Hue and Saturation to minimum. Then, using History Brush Tool to "redo" the effect in the model space.
Adding a fake website address below make the photo more professional. Do you see the white word "De" and "sign"???

Finally, a dark fog space borders the the photo make it higher in depth. The photo will not "flat" but has a depth so it looks like a real magazine.

I feel total happy with this work, I think that you can try to do like me: finding some designs, analyse them and make something by your own. Just learning about the idea, do not copy it.

Thanks for joining this entry.

The First Entry: Paul Rand, my designer idol

DESIGN_with their little things

Hello everyone, this is my first entry for DIM2 course. I am so exciting about design elements which I have learnt in last week.
From our pretty teacher, Mrs Li Ping, I understand that everything should be started from basic things. Design does too. Sometimes we look at great design creations and amaze with them and ask by ourselves: why they can do that? why they can compose those thing? they are so great, they can do big things...and so on. But have you ever ask them:
WHERE DID THEY BEGIN??? and famous designer will answer: I BEGAN FROM small THINGS...
Yes, from small things, everything can be created. With Paul Rand, this thing is more right. I have mentioned about Paul Rand, a famous design of 20th century.

"Design can be art, design can be aesthetics.
Design is so simple, that's why it is so complicated."

Paul Rand, 1997

When talking about Paul Rand, everyone know about him throughout famous logo design such as: IBM, Westinghouse, abc...

What do you think about these simple shape and pattern below, will they become valuable design?

You can think that: such a boring picture (hey, don't try to image it to something) but with Paul, this is a whole sky for ideas, let's see his logo design:

http://www.namedevelopment.com/blog/archives/ABC-Logo.gif

Everyone can easily recognize that Rand's logos was made from very basic elements and colors but he arranged and combined them together exactly and effectively

By controlling the deep meaning of basic design element like point, line, shape, color....he created companies logo which are very strong in idea effect. Paul Rand is also known as a combined human of idealist and realist, poet and businessman. He is a great modernist of Cubism, Constructivism and Bauhaus. In this short entry, I can not explain all meaning of his logo design. I hope I have given you a way of thinking: less is more. and keep your work complicated in simple things.

Finally, I show you a short clip about Paul Rand (you can easily find and download it on youtube, key word: Paul Rand).
